MOBB Initiative for Sustainable Development is a community-based organization registered and operating in Kasese District. Founded in March 2008 to address issues pertaining fish farming following the decline in fish catches in the natural water bodies and it has since been supporting a number of subsistence out grower fish farmers that grow catfish, tilapia and mirror carp among others. Our major thematic areas are sustainable Aquaculture and Agriculture, Environmental Conservation, health and youth green skilling and empowerment
We have since been supporting 100 subsistence out grower fish farmers that grow catfish, tilapia and mirror carp, these farmers were later integrated in the renewable energy access as the organisation joined the campaign of Clean Energy under the Champion District Initiative (CDI) project in Kasese District in 2014. Since then, the organisation has won two grants from private sector Uganda, four grants from World Wide Fund for nature (WWF) for increasing access to clean energy basically in the sub counties of Kisinga, Kyondo, Kyarumba and Lake Katwe, however, with the overwhelming demand of energy technologies and the fish farming project across the District our energy campaigns have covered other extra sub counties of Kitholhu, Maliba Nyakiyumbu, Mukunyu and Kitswamba all in Kasese District. And over 1063 households have been able to access clean energy technologies through MOBBISUD interventions.
Based on the current trends of unemployment in Uganda, MOBB Initiative for sustainable development was formed to creatively put ideas together to create self-employment, support the surrounding communities and innovations for development. Currently the organization owns a fish hatchery, and 10 fish ponds breeding catfish, tilapia and mirror carp. The fish and mushroom market is readily available but the organization is overwhelmed and currently have not added value to most of the products we produce.
The organisation also trains the youth in green skills.
